New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Carousel Vertigo. The Revenge of Rock and Roll Review.

Carousel Vertigo The Revenge of Rock and RollThe PR release accompanying the promo CD says about Carousel Vertigo: “the best band you’ve never heard playing the greatest music you think you already know but don’t”.

And that’s about right. I had never heard of the band – but everybody should hear of them with a release like this in their armoury.

The revenge of Rock and Roll is a monster, monster album indeed. A proper classic rock, seventies style punchy and clean songs with bite and a swaggering bluesy edge.

Crisp guitars, tight rhythm section booming out and a singer with power, range and a charismatic style.

It’s all a bit like a heavied up Free and/or Bad Company a-la Straight Shooter. Guitarist Vincent Martinez cranks out the big chords with ease and can play a mean solo which fits in with the flow of the song rather than be flashy or fast for the sake of it. He does an awful lot with not many notes. Reminds me of Mick Ralphs.

No More Hesitatin’ is a rocking, punchy opener with a bit of a groove. Here’s the video to give your ears a taste of what Carousel Vertigo are all about. Gud innit?

Honey Do blues things up a bit more with some keys and horns followed by the huge title track which swaggers along confidently not unlike early Aerosmith with some more keys and horns filling out the sound to giant proportions. And the vocal range of Vincent adds to the intensity of the song.

And so the fine signwriting continues over the remainder of the ten cuts varying from the slower soulful types to the full on yet measured blues-rockers.

Check out in particular the punchy Get it On riffage and the marvellous, sweeping soulfulness of I May, I Might featuring some more of that excellent measured guitar work.

The Revenge of Rock and Roll is slotted for release on 29 September. Why not pre-order your copy directly from the band’s web site:
