Former Lucifer Member Rhett May Releases New Single

Rhett-May-Violence-of-IceSomewhere back in 1970s Australia a band stalked the country by the name of Lucifer. Not sure how you’d label them. Perhaps a mixture of glam/hard rock with a touch of the blues. Unlike compatriots AC/DC, Lucifer didn’t have too much success. Heck, I’d forgotten all about them until those nice people at Quite Great Communications emailed to let me know that ex-Lucifer dude Rhett May has popped up with a new single called The Violence of Ice.

It’s slotted for release on October 2nd though you can check out the video for it now. I’ve given it both a look and a listen. After that, both my thumbs are pointing in a vertical direction.

A spacey chill out track with a real message in the lyrics. An Eastern tinge to proceedings with some very nice trippy guitar holding it all together.

The press release blurb says:

“His self-produced rock is simple, raw and home-made – without over-the-top production but with plenty to say about May’s take on the modern world.”

“Having spent a large part of his childhood in Calcutta, India, his guitar led songs are infused with the sounds of the Indian streets, giving his music a different flavour to the majority of current, cookie cutter rock music.”

I’d agree with that after checking out The Violence of Ice. And I do hope there’s an album to follow at some point.

Here’s the video. See what you think.

Now, are your thumbs pointing skywards like mine?
