An eagerly-anticipated Bank Holiday weekend rewarded with the arrival of the new album from Mythra – Still Burning.
These boys, hewn from the original New Wave of British Heavy Metal days – offer up a dozen delightful new songs which remind the listener of the old days whilst showing the band’s modern chops.
Full of chopping, slashing riffs, big chords tasty solos and a growing vocal showing from Vince spitting out the lyrics in time with the riffage.
Mythra know how proper rock/metal should be done and demonstrate that to full effect here.
A touch of melody amongst the power too with meaty chorus lines evident.

Call to All is catchy as you like. Rocks along in a similar way to the above with the big hook chorus. Tight, straight to the point rockers. Highly enjoyable.
The more you get in to the album, the more the band demonstrates an ability to stretch out in to deeper arrangements such as the cutting riffs in Survival and Battle Cry with some fine fretwork in between.
Sands of Time being another notable effort with a bit of an epic feel and solos breaking out here and there.
To extend the range further part of We Belong and Fundamental Extreme show a spot of proggy leaning to these ears.
I told me mate Rob to buy it. He did. Next day delivery from Amazon (he’s rich you see and can afford Prime). That next day he sent a text to say how dammed good it is.
Still Burning is a seriously highly recommended purchase for any rock/metal advocate where an old NWOBHM-er like your reviewer or you prefer the newer stuff but want to see (listen to ) how it should be done.
A monster album from the NWOBHM stalwarts. Guitarists John Roach and Alex Perry are all over it. Welcome, refreshing. Mythra are not only still burning – they are very much still “rocking”.
