New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Rich Kid Express: Psychodelic Review.

Here’s a fun one for you to check out – the debut album from Rich Kid Express entitled Psychodelic. Email arrived from Rob Richardson at Squib Kick Records asking if I’d like to review it and he was kind enough to send over a CD for me.

From the description is Rob’s email is certainly came across that Rich Kid Express would hit the spot for me, and it certainly has.

Rob created Rich Kid Eexpress as a fun, solo project that strives to bring back the vintage vibe of classic hard rock!

If you were a teenager in the 70’s & 80’s…and liked Glam Rock, the LA Scene and Headbangers Ball – you’ll know exactly what to expect!

Now – that was me. A teenager around that time and as well as my New Wave of British Heavy Metal I wasn’t adverse to a bit of glam, hair metal and the like also. Have my fair share of T Rex, Slade, Sweet and Roxy Music for example. Still am today.

Anyhoo – Rich Kid Express. What a fine album it is. Rob’s surely on to a winner here. All the elements of the late 1970s/early 1980s are here in abundance. And it’s all done with a slightly tongue in cheek light hearted style with a nice feel good uplifting style about it.

Ten songs each around the three to four minute mark. Every one punchy and to the point. No wasted effort here, which works well rather than as some bands do these days and slap in an hour or more without the quality to back it up.

Instead, Rich Kid Express, I mean Rob, keeps true to that 1970s/1980s style when the likes of the early NWOBHM and glam rock bands were cranking out songs of this style.

No self-indulgence. Simply upbeat meaty rockers packing it all in to those three or four minutes  in a sort of raucous and slightly sleazy style without losing any of the feel good factor.

Big chords, big riffs, big drums, pounding bass lines, anthemic, fist raising shout along chorus lines and those short but powerful guitar breaks. All in all – superbly delivered, pays homage back to the “good old days” and is an excellent listen indeed.

Here’s a preview video of what to expect:

For an old bloke like myself listing to Rich Kid Express took me back to my teenage days when stuff like this ruled the roost.
