New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Tytan Justice Served Review.

Tytan Justice ServedOne of the original NWOBHM-era bands tipped to make it was Angelwitch. After one glorious album, it didn’t work out for them.

All was not lost however as out of the demise of Angewlwitch came Tytan.

Their debut album “back in the day” – Rough Justice – was something special. And to this day remains one of my favourites. It didn’t work out for Tytan either then and they broke up too. And that, seemed to be that.

After a reformation to play a few festivals earlier this decade, Tytan got their mojo back.

Original member Kevin Riddles steers the ship and last year, the band released a second album – Justice Served. It somehow passed me by at the time – though now, thanks to being sent a review copy by Kevin I am more than pleased to report it’s a real barnstormer.

Love You to Death give a nice fast paced opener in a frantic NWOBHM-style way. Fight the Fight has an anthemic feel with the title words pit out with some venom. And to complete a battering ram trio comes Spitfire. Just under three minutes of a machine gun speed rampage with some urgent guitar breaks. Glorious. Check it out below.

Reap the Whirlwind has slower pace with an atmospheric feel followed by the acoustical-based Midnight Sun. Then to demonstrate the range of style on offer here comes Billy Who. A sort of blazing free-form instrumental with all sorts happening including a brief drum solo.

After Billy Who, the style changes again. This time with the keys coming up in the mix the give a new dimension to the sound which reminds your reviewer of something akin to pre-MTV Whitesnake.

Justice Served is a monster, monster album. No mistake. Tytan had the ability and talent the first time around to put them a cut above. And now, decades later, those chops are still there and then some. The guitar work throughout being particularly impressive.

If you’re a hangover from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal or not, Justice Served will surely please your ears.
