New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Wings of Pegasus Persistence Review.

wings-of-pegasusA quick aside before we get in to this review……top news for us NWOBHM fans. A new album by Soldier is almost amongst us. It’s called Defiant. As soon as I can get my grubby little hands on a copy then a review will follow.

But this one is for Persistence by Wings of Pegasus. A few posts ago I wrote a bit of blurb about the band following a press release from their promotions company. The single is was about was dammed good and dammed catchy too. If you want to check that out – then look at this post.

It got in to my head so much that I had to get the album. I must, I must. So I did via the band’s web site. I’ve had it a few weeks though just realised I’d not got around to posting a review. Oooops. Anyhoo – CD duly arrived with a nice hand written thank you from main man Fil and a squiggle on the CD label. What a polite young man.

What an upbeat, fun, enjoyable listen it is too from first to last. Punchy hard melodic pop-rock with plenty of bite. Soaring choruses (that is the plural of chorus – right?), chunky clean riffage and some dextrous fretwork all over it. And so dammed catchy and infectious. Those clean riffs and chord structures are overplayed with some very fine guitar work to add the rock/metal edge and Fil has a fine voice too.

All sounds fresh as it rocks along. Even the soppy ballad has a bit of bite. I’d defy any rock fan not to like this album. Very infectious. Man, it’s so catchy that if Persistence could be used as fish bait those aquatic lifeforms wouldn’t stand a chance. They’d be out of the water and in to the net before the first chord of Percy Johnson was over. Humane fishing too – no hooks required other than those in the songs……..!

If you think it’ll take your fancy, head on over to the band’s site and hit the button:

Next up I hope, the new Soldier and back to the NWOBHM.
