New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Wings of Pegasus soar with new rock track: That’s Metal (To My Ears).

wings-of-pegasusThe folks at Quite Great Communications are, er, quite great at sending me the occasional nice nugget about bands wot I (and perhaps you too…..) might like. The most recent example bar this being the superb Bad Touch CD. And today here’s another one – Wings of Pegasus. I’ve watched the video of their single (you can to – it’s a bit further down this post) and I’m very happy to report that it’s jolly spiffing. A sort of New Wave of British Hair Metal (might turn out to be a thing – you heard it here first…….probably).

That’s Metal (To My Ears) is a rollocking anethemic shout-along fest in the style mixing a spot NWOBHM-style influences with the big sounding “hair metal” type of stuff which came along in the early 1980s. Positively modern retro. It’s punchy, powerful, loud, monster riff, melodic, catchy as anything and a killer solo all packed in to around three and a half minutes. Breathless stuff. I hope you enjoy it too from the video a bit further down. It’s taken from the boys’ debut album (Persistence) and it’s out on May 10th.

To the band’s credit, they are raising money for Cancer Research UK through the ‘Make Chart History’ Campaign too. Well done chaps.

Now, whilst I hunt down the album (I must have it…….I must……) here’s a spot of blurb courtesy of Quite Great Comms about Wings of Pegasus including the video for That’s Metal (To My Ears).

Hard rock with an 80s twist inspired by the likes of Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, Dokken and more, Wings of Pegasus are a rock band with a big sound and a fresh approach to the music industry. With new single ‘That’s Metal (To My Ears)’ due in May, the band are running a campaign called ‘Make Chart History’, aiming to take the independent release to the very top of the charts, all the while donating the proceeds to Cancer Research UK.

Hoping to whip up a groundswell of support, songwriter Fil Henley is working hard to spread the word on the campaign as well as the single itself – an independently produced homage to old 80’s bands with big hair and screeching guitar solos. Designed to encourage listeners to dust off the air guitar, its great fun and the most light hearted track on the ‘Persistence’ album, which is out now.

Video here:

Produced in house by Henley, who taught himself the techniques to keep the band independent, the song is the perfect catalyst for the charity drive and ‘Make Chart History’ campaign to hang on. Key tastemakers Leona Graham of Absolute Radio and John Kennedy at XFM have already voiced their support for Wings of Pegasus’ music, and the band are working hard to continue getting the word out.

The hard work is also typified by Fil Henley’s dedication to conversing personally with all the fans on Twitter, and with the number of followers standing at over 50,000, that’s a lot of messages! It doesn’t hurt that the band have the talent to back up the graft, as proven by their appearance in the final of the ‘Unsigned Festival 2010’ at the IndigO2 venue. Finishing 3rd out of 12,000 bands, it was a huge boost to the group who haven’t looked back since.

Fiercely independent, the band have also had label interest, but chose to stick to their own path. Frontman Henley was even scouted to join a different group, but chose to make the music he wanted to make with Wings of Pegasus.

The result is the superb new single and the ‘Make Chart History’ campaign – all set to culminate in the May 10th release date.
