New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Millennium: The Sign of Evil Review

Millennium The Sign of EvilMillennium go back to the early 1980 and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal heydays.

After a fine debut album things didn’t take off for them and the disbanded towards the end of that decade seemingly never to return.

However return they did in 2015 issuing excellent albums such as Awakening (review here) and Caught in a Warzone (review here) keeping their NWOBHM roots properly alive.

I missed A New World (note to self – buy it) and now in 2023 the band keeps up regular activity with The Sign of Evil.

Indeed – it’s been a hectic few weeks with new releases from other old NWOBHM bands such as Trespass and Weapon and with new albums from Raven and Girlschool due soon it’s like the New Wave of British Heavy Metal never went away – well, it hasn’t has it……?

Millennium’s the Sign of Evil has all the hallmarks of their NWOBHM heritage as well as sounding fresh and modern whilst playing to their strengths for thumping listen throughout.

Proper heaviness throughout with a big sound and clean production performed by a band who all clearly know what it is all about and are tight.

Nine tracks of thunder with that nice feel of where it all began for Millennium four decades ago. The huge powerchords and riffs which crunch the gut, nice lead work, big rhythm section and powerful vocals making a fine album indeed.

Check out the opener for example – There is a Devil.

Is that not a monster? Massive riff cutting and slashing. Thudding drums. Shout along chorus. Marvellous.

The rest of The Sign of Evil grabs the attention in a similar way. Very strong and solid throughout.

Like many of the “legacy” NWOBHM-era bands still active today, Millennium continue to crank out the good stuff keeping old NWOBHM fans happy and showing how it should be done. Long may it continue.
