Vantage Point: Collision Course.

Vantage Point Collision COurse EPIf you haven’t heard of Vantage Point before (must admit I hadn’t until guitarist James Mitchell got in touch to ask if I’d like to review their Collision Course EP), the band hail from Edinburgh.

They’ve been around since 2008 and have released a fair bit of stuff which is available via the band’s Bandcamp page (link appears a bit later).

And on the evidence of the Collision Course EP, Vantage Point is a band deserving of your attention.

The four tracks waste no time getting in to your head from the first listen. There’s no messing about here. Properly enjoyable rock songs skilfully delivered in short order.

First up is Collision Course. A tasty instrumental with a nice bass riff. It’s not unlike something Rush might have come up with in their pomp. Think “The Main Monkey Business” for example.

Leona Hart has a bit of a “jaunty” feel to it and is something of a slow burner until it explodes in the mid-section featuring a very fine solo. A big hook too. Excellent.

Kane jogs along well too and allows vocalist/bassist Murray Graham to show off his range and more excellent soloing from Liam Kane.

Last up is Fire Island/Gaydar. A monster driving riff at the heart of matters around a meaty, heavy rocker.

I couldn’t find any videos of any of the four Collision Course cuts. So to give you a taster of what to expect, here’s a video of the band performing Attack. It’s jolly good……

Vantage Point are a tight band. One of Scotland’s “best kept secrets” musically surely.

Do check ‘em out – and pick up Collision Course too if you can.
