New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Warrior Invasion Imminent Review.

Warrior Invasion ImminentA few months ago, Warrior guitarist Dave Dawson got in touch to say that the NWOBHM survivors had a new album out – Invasion Imminent. But download only. Hmmmmm.

Because I’m still stuck in the 1970s/1980s I don’t understand all this new-fangled digital stuff instead preferring a physical product.

Dave said he’d sent a CD as soon as available – and true to his word, he has. My old ears have spent a few days well and truly wrapping themselves around Invasion Imminent.

And my old ears told my equally aging brain that Warrior are in top, top form with an album true to their New Wave of British Heavy Metal origins yet sounding fresh and superbly pleasurable as the album rewards the listener with a little more on each spin.

Oh yes, it most certainly “rocks” however there’s much more going on here than burgeoning riffs and lots of noise. The compositions are well constructed, have depth and yes, hit hard. Proper, proper stuff.

You may at first be forgiven you are listening to Richard Clayderman or someone like that as the opener, Metal Fatigue, is a nice, twee, gentle piano chill-out. But when does the good stuff start…….? You know its coming and when it arrived BAM!

Second Chance announces it’s arrived with a crunching riff and frantic fretwork telling what appears to be the tale of how the band got back together again. Great!

Trojan Horse has a similar feel and an anthemic, fist pumping shout-along feel. Why not listen to it? Hit the play button below.

Rise of the Warriors is a scorcher with a prog-like tinge. Massive song featuring some deft yet powerful soloing from both guitarists.

And so the album follows throughout. Check out Riding the Wave – a proper barnstormer looking back to the early NWOBHM days making up a sort of two-parter with Second Chance.

Everything hits the spot dead centre. A monster of an album. Even more proof that the New Wave of British Heavy Metal may have come and (almost) gone some four decades ago though bands from “back then” continue to thrive and record excellent albums which continue the legacy and remain influential.

Warrior’s Invasion Imminent has a double thumbs-up and then some from this reviewer.

If you prefer a CD, I’m not sure where you’d find one on sale. You could contact the band via http://warriorofficial.co.uk and ask nicely perhaps?
