New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Lemmy’s First Solo Record Set for Late 2017 Release

Few acts from the first wave of NWOBHM bands had the lasting impact of Motörhead. When Lemmy died in December of 2015 it left a huge hole in the world of rock and fans wondered if metal would ever be the same without him.

Naturally, it won’t be. Motörhead is too influential of a band and Lemmy was just too large of a presence to every be replaced. Thankfully, Lemmy’s legacy will continue to live on thanks to his dogged insistence on constantly recording new music.

There’s already been one posthumous Motörhead record with the Clean Your Clock live double LP released in June 2016, but there’s even more new material in the works for fans.

It has been revealed that Lemmy had actually been working on a solo record and that it might actually see the light of day soon enough. The project has reportedly been more than a decade in the making and will feature a murderer’s row of stars. The album will apparently feature collaborations with legendary punk band The Damned, American psychobilly mavens Reverend Horton Heat, and Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters.

The upcoming album doesn’t have a title or official release date yet, but it’s expected to drop sometime later this year.

And this isn’t the only way that Motörhead is continuing to rock. The band has exploded in the world of video games in the last year as well. There was a whole Motörhead-themed expansion to the popular Diablo-style game, “Victor Vran” and there was also a game developed for casual fans.

A licensed slot reel features Lemmy and the rest of the guys as fans play the casino classic with tribute songs playing constantly in the background and reels featuring icons like the band itself, Snaggletooth, and more. It’s a great way for fans to continue to appreciate the gods of British speed metal and may help a new generation learn about them, too.

And that’s not all that Motörhead fans have to look forward to. A limited edition photobook featuring Lemmy and the band is being released on July 14th. The book will feature a number of unpublished shots combined with live photographs.

The 128 page book will cost £79.99 and will come packaged in a metal flight case with a set of collectable prints. Fans hoping to sit this piece of memorabilia on their coffee table will need to act fast because only 300 copies will be available.

In a way it’s comforting to know that the legend of Motörhead won’t be fading out any time soon. They’re one of the seminal NWOBHM bands and their influence will continue to be felt by generations of rock fans.

It’s hard to believe that it’s taken this long for a solo album from their front man, but we hope it can manage to live up to the incredible legacy that has preceded it.
