Three of the biggest names still with us from the original New Wave of British Heavy Metal years have albums due to be released. Well, two of them confirmed and another planned.
Who are the three? Cloven Hoof, Saxon and Girlschool.
Cloven Hoof are first with the release of Never a Prophet in Your Owen Land scheduled for release on 25 September via High Roller Records.
Apparently musically it will hark back to the Sultan’s Choice style and will be a very varied album, containing mid-tempo songs, faster tunes, epic compositions and straight heavy metal rockers showing the band’s versatility.
It’s Cloven Hoof’s tenth album coming a couple of years or so after Heathen Cross. That album I though was rather generic overall bar one or two highlights. So I’m hoping Never a Prophet in Your Own Land will live up to the teaser of versatility.
Saxon will release their new one – Gods of Thunder – on 22 January 2027 on Silver Lining Music with a single from it to be released sometime in September which is when pre-orders for the album will open.
Legendary vocalist Biff Byford indicates that Gods of Thunder will be “heavier, more than anything.”
If Gods of Thunder is anywhere near as good as recent albums such as Carpe Diem and Hell, Fire and Damnation then Gods of Thunder should properly hit the spot.
Then we have Girlschool. With their fiftieth anniversary coming up in 2028, the ladies are planning a new album which will be the follow-up to Wtfortyfive from 2023.
That album showed that Girlschool remain as good, energetic and as enthusiastic as ever.
