Nicko McBrain, long-time drummer with New Wave of British Heavy Metal titans Iron Maiden, has announced the upcoming publication of his autobiography.
It is titled Hello Boys and Girls and is due for release on 22 October 2026 in hardback, e-book and audiobook formats.
Nicko joined Maiden in all the way back in 1982 to replace Clive Burr following earlier stints with the likes of Trust and Pat Travers. However he retired from touring with Maiden a couple of years ago though remains involved in studio projects.
After over four decades as the drummer in arguably the world’s premier heavy metal band, he must have many stories to tell in his own way.
Whilst Iron Maiden have never hit the spot for me and I wouldn’t call myself a fan of the band, it cannot be disputed that Nicko is one of the finest drummers of the genre with such technical ability and relentless skill behind the kit.
We’re promised a book “packed with unforgettable moments, backstage stories, laugh-out-loud anecdotes and raw honesty” with Hello Boys and Girls being “more than a rock memoir; it’s a front-row seat to one of heavy metal’s greatest lives.”
The book is over three hundred pages long so there’ll be plenty to read. I don’t know how long three hundred pages equates to regarding listening time in the audiobook version.
Pre-orders are open now. I have pre-ordered a copy as whilst not being a fan, I am intrigued to read the story of Nicko’s life. It must have been quite the wild ride.
