Teaze: Rev Your Engines Review

Canadian hard rockers Teaze released three albums at the end of the 1970s and their fourth in 1980 before disappearing.

Each one a fine effort however the band didn’t enjoy too much commercial success outside their home and native land bar Japan.

A few years ago on the suggestion of a friend, I bought One Night Stands (arguably Teaze’s finest work) and it’s a monster of fresh, upbeat hard, melodic rock with plenty of power amongst the hooks and melodies. I listen to it regularly.

There’d be a shock reformation after thirty-nine years with a reunion show on home turf followed by the Live in Liege album recorded at the Golden Age Rock Festival in 2023 – and now in 2026 we have Rev Your Engines. The first Teaze first studio album since Body Shots in 1980.

So, how good is a new album from a band which last released a studio album forty six years ago? Well, let me tell you it’s huge.

An album which grabs from the first riff and doesn’t let go – other than the “bonus track” which I’ll mention briefly a little later.

The title track kicks it off. What a song. Full of pace, power and energy. A real rip-snorter with a huge shout along chorus. An immediate direct hit. Here is is:

Man of Vision starts of at a gentler tone until becoming a very catchy chugger with more insane hooks and guitar work.

Turning the Night Away turns it up again then flies in the thumping Gotta Rock, which indeed does rock. We Are One features Brian Danter’s smooth yet powerful vocal range throughout this power ballad style song with more power than ballad.

Then we have a perfectly perfunctory cover of Rainbow’s Man on the Silver Mountain followed by three crackers to close out the album – the last of them, City of Roses is the pick.

The only weak spot here is the bonus track of Sweet Misery. A reworking of an old song of theirs from the 1970s. Skip it – a turgid, overly saccharine soaked three and a half minutes of wimp rock nobody needs to subject their ears to.

That apart – Rev Your Engines is a majestic album and a roaring return from Teaze after nearly half a century away.

Classic guitar-driven hard and heavy rock with more huge, powerful riffs, soaring solos, chugging backbeats, glorious fresh vocals, and infectious hooks and melodies than you can keep track of as you listen. Sublime stuff indeed.
