New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Blitzkrieg: Blitzkrieg Review

Blitzkrieg NWOBHMNew Wave of British Heavy Metal mayhem here with the release of the self-titled album from Blitzkrieg.

They go all the way back to the original NWOBHM days and are still with us in 2024 producing the good stuff.

It’s been a few years since their previous album, however with this self-titled effort they’ve put together a most fine album of hard-hitting heaviness and like NWOBHM contemporaries such as Saxon, Demon, Troyen and others have done this year with their new albums, Blitzkrieg remain at the top of their game.

As you’d expect, this is a battering ram of an album. All sorts of riffage chugs, cuts and slashes, scorching solos abound, monster drumming, thumping bass and the big vocals from Brian Ross.

The production is first class too giving it all some proper ooomph.

The hard, punchy opener of You Won’t Take Me Alive sets the pace for what’s to follow.

The Spider is breathless stuff with the slashing riffage and spectacular solo whilst I Am His Voice has a bit of a Saxon feel to it.

Dragon’s Eye is a big chug-fest leaning towards classic Dio territory with lyrics not taking themselves too seriously. Somewhat cheesy yet irresistible.

If I Told You broods along calming the pace down slightly and going all conspiracy theory – though features a crushing solo.

Blitzkrieg stretch out in to a mini-epic of proggy metal with of On Olympus High.

Have a listen to The Spider – good innit?

This is a most solid album of classic metal with those NWOBHM roots welcomingly evident.
