Here’s a proper and most welcome throwback to the start of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal days.
No Peace Till Hammersmith is the mighty Weapon captured live during their tour supporting Motorhead in 1980 on the Ace Up Your Sleeve tour.
The garden was looking rosy form Weapon back then at the start of their career.
Quickly snapped up by Virgin Records and then after Motorhead guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clarke attended a Weapon gig he was impressed enough that Weapon bagged the support slot on the tour.
Whilst it didn’t work out for Weapon back in the day (though they are around today – more on that shortly), this storming live performance hits right between the eyes.
Band member Danny Hynes found a cassette of the performance a couple of years ago. He had digitised mastered and now it has been released by Obscure NWOBHM Releases.
Proper, honest to goodness, hard hitting stuff it is indeed. Hard and heavy.
Rather rough and ready as you’d expect given the circumstances though it’s full of power and energy as Weapon don’t hold back or leave anything on the stage.
Here’s the track listing:
01.Intro (O’Fortuna)
02.Set The Stage Alight
03.Midnight Satisfaction
04.Remote Control
05.No Peace for the Wicked
06.Killer Instinct
07.This is the Song
08.Take That Bottle Away
09.One Night Stand
10.Mad Mad World
Fancy a taster? Then here’s Midnight Satisfaction.
The Motorhead tour didn’t give Weapon the boost you may have thought it would and the band didn’t last much longer for various reasons before splitting.
However, they reformed in 2005 remaining active since including the very fine New Clear Power album which was released in mid-2023.
It’s good stuff too. My review of the album is here.
And I understand Danny and the band are at work on writing for a new album to be released in due course.
In the meantime – don’t miss out on No Peace Till Hammersmith….!
As is usual with Obscure NWOBHM Releases, this is a limited edition run of 500 CDs. Here’s the link to the label and also Sonic Age Records which is my other “go to” place for theses things:

Should be some more good NWOBHM to look at soon. The new Airforce album release is imminent and the Gillan box set shouldn’t be long after it.
