Here’s a proper “blast from the past” for you. Had an email arrive from Tommie Bouzianis who has NWOBHM connections going right back to Neal Kay and the Bandwagon Heavy Metal Soundhouse days in North London.
Sort of the “ground zero” for the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
Now, Tommie is a rather excellent guitarist/bassist and been a member of various bands.
One of them – Dynamitte Inc would see the Neal Kay connection bearing fruit as he produced the band and they had a track (Shark) in Kay’s Metal for Muthas ’92 album.
It’s a killer too. Very strong. Has all the right elements and man, Dynamitte Inc make a lot of noise for a three-piece.
Tommie’s bass lines throb along strongly yet economically and Dave Lear’s guitar work is spectacular.
Tommie pointed me towards a video of the bank performing Shark at the much-missed Marquee. Check is out:
Despite numerous shows at the Marquee, Astoria etc., a tour of Scandinavia, numerous positive reviews in the trade press and talent aplenty it didn’t work out for Dynamitte Inc and that was that.
Fast forward a few decades and Tommie is in a band called Astrodot.
They have a debut album out. I’ve heard a couple of the songs and whilst the style is not as heavy as Dynamitte Inc it does rock along nicely featuring clean yet strong riffs and chords structures with some nice keys worked in too.
Have a look at the video for Misty Mornin’.
Being an old git like I am, I asked Tommie if the album is available on CD. Alas (for me) it isn’t. Though it is available in electronic format via Amazon where you can also listen to samples before you buy.
