Hell is a band from the NWOBHM days who I must admit I had not heard of until recently reading about their new (debut indeed) album. So I did a little bit of digging to see what I could find out.

Originating from Derbyshire in 1982 the band had something of an occult-style image and look building up something of a following through their theatrical stage act.  A debut single – Those Who Would Save Us – appeared in 1983 and it looked like Hell would gain some momentum and were signed by Mausoleum Records.

But then a double tragedy struck with the label went belly up and the suicide of singer/guitarist, Dave Halliday in 1987. Blows the band did not recover from and time was called.

Now, thirty years later Hell is back with a new album – Human Remains – in the can. Original members Kev Bower, Tony Speakman and Tim Bowler are joined by new vocalist Dave Bower (Kev’s brother) and ex-Sabbat member Andy Sneap on guitar.

Sneap of course these days is a much in demand producer and believes in the band so much that he has apparently passed us the chance of producing the new Megadeth offering.

A quick trawl of YouTube threw up a few videos including this one from the new album entitled On Earth as it is in Hell. It’s top stuff indeed. Skilfully played, heavy, melodic and even progressive. Almost like an Iron Maiden and Helloween hybrid. Look and listen below:

If the rest of the album is that good it will be an essential purchase for sure. Check out Hell Human Remains on Amazon today for more.
