New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Mikey Hamptons and the Meows: Okay I’m Ready to Rock Now.

Email arrived recently from Flaslight PR inviting me to take a look/listen to Mikey Hamptons and the Meows and their debut album entitled Okay I’m Ready to Rock Now.

As regular readers here will know I’m still stuck in the 1970s with all this modern streaming/downloading an alien concept to me – so thanks to Flashlight and the band for hitting me up with a CD.

Quite an excellent listen it is too. I’d say something of a retro classic rock feel about it with pop/rock leanings producing enjoyable hook-laden, melodic foot-tapping stuff.

A lot of it reminds me of the Blue Oyster Cult circa Agents of Fortune in style for example have a listen to Dreamwave, Fine, I’m Alive, Full Circle etc. and you’ll see (or rather hear) what I mean.

Lots of jaunty riffs, thumping drums and groovy/funky bass lines well up in the mix put a bit of a trippy/spacey edge on things here and there too.

Here’s a video for Dreamwave – what do you think?

To give you some background on the band and album, here’s the media release which came from the PR company:

“While the British Invasion is clearly in Mikey Hamptons & The Meows DNA, their heavy riffs and adrenaline-fueled performances ensure that they are much more than a nostalgia act. Borrowing the formula that made Oasis and Nirvana international sensations, Hamptons combines precise songcraft with a natural gift for melody, then turns the volume all the way up to create the group’s signature sound.

Currently based in New York, the group is made up of a revolving cast of sidemen brought in to bring Mikey Hamptons’ visions to life. Since releasing their first singles in 2018, Mikey and his collaborators have spent endless hours in the studio, cumulating with their debut full length “Okay, I’m Ready to Rock Now” CD. Full of chiming Rickenbacker guitars and frantic rock’n’roll energy, it is proof that Mikey Hamptons & the Meows are here to stay.”

I think Okay I’m ready to Rock Now is a fine effort from the band showing much promise. It does “rock” in it’s own way and the songs are so infectiously catchy they’ll stick in your head.

I’m not certain that a CD version of the album is available (perhaps contact the band to ask?) though it is available on Amazon Music, link below:
