New Wave of British Heavy Metal legends Quartz sign with Battlegod Productions with work planned for a new album tentatively sue for release next year or possibly early 2027. Top news indeed.
Quartz have been around now for over half a century. Their eponymous debut album seeing the light of day in 1977 and produced by none other than Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi.
With both bands being from the Birmingham area they had quite a connection. Quartz would tour with Sabbath indeed.
The classic Stand Up and Fight album followed in 1980 and they had the support slot to Rush on their Permanent Waves tour. Saw them at the old Queens Hall in Leeds. Then after Against All Odds in 1983, Quartz disappeared.
However there’d be a reformation in 2011 and more recently the release of a couple of most fine albums.
In 2022 we had the excellent On the Edge of No Tomorrow and earlier this year we had the equally excellent Six – titled thusly given it’s the band’s sixth album.
Both of these recent albums show that Quartz have not missed a step over the years. Properly solid heaviness with the NWOBHM roots.
And now with them signing with Battlegod we can start to look forward to album number seven in due course.
I’ll keep an eye out for more news as it emerges around confirmed release date and pre-order details for the new album.
Here’s Insomnia from Six as a taster if you may not be familiar with Quartz:
