Here’s an unexpected surprise. A new album from Apocalypse. It’s titled Last Man Standing and due out via High Roller Records on 25 September 2026.
Our New Wave of British Heavy Metal history reminds us that Apocalypse formed around 1980.
They recorded a demo and the well-received Stormchild single back then before changing name to Omega and releasing the magnificent The Prophet album under than name.
Coincidentally, The Prophet was reissued by High Roller a couple of years or so ago. It’s a most fine album indeed of sort of doomy, proggy and heavy NWOBHM. Read my review here for more about that.
Back to Apocalypse – Steve Grainger has revived the name and recoded this new album. In some ways it’s a solo album as Steve takes care of everything musically and vocally.
Apocalypse of solo – it doesn’t matter. It’s still NWOBHM-related. And based on the video for We Are the Chosen all the vintage NWOBHM hallmarks remain. It sounds very good.
I didn’t realise that Apocalypse released and album back in 2010 – Abandon Hope. I must check that out.
Last Man Standing has a mixture of songs written by Steve and some older songs which have their origins back to the pre-Apocalypse days of Phaze.
Now, as to getting a copy – unfortunately High Roller Records’ web site indicates that to deliver here to the UK, there’s minimum order of 160 Euros.

High Roller are busy with new stuff from legacy NWOBHM bands. Also on 25 September they are due to release the new one from Cloven Hoof titled Never A Prophet In Your Own Land.
