Back around 1980, a band by the name of Sweet Savage formed in Belfast.
They boasted a young hotshot guitarist called Vivian Campbell and set out on the New Wave of British Heavy Metal trail.
There’d be a handful of singles before Vivian went off to join Dio for and since the early 1990s has been in Def Leppard – but you know that, right?
Sweet Savage floated around for a spell received a huge boost when Metallica covered the band’s Killing Time song including it as a B-side and on their Garage Inc. album.
They’ve remained sporadically active since most recently releasing the excellent Bang album last year with original member Ray Haller remaining present.
Now news is emerging that Vivian and Ray have been in contact with the result being the recoding of two new Sweet Savage songs – the first with Vivian since the early 1980s.
Also, it appears that there are plans afoot for the release of those two new songs together with a number of previously unreleased Sweet Savage stuff from those early days – tentatively to be released next year given Vivian’s touring commitments with Def Leppard.
Certainly something to be looking forward to isn’t it?
Until then, here is Killing Time:
Do also check out the Bang album from last year. It’s very heavy…..
