Dave Dufort is a name you will likely recognise, especially if you know your New Wave of British Heavy Metal history.
If not – a quick reminder. Dave is a veteran drummer probably best remembered for being a member of (in my opinion) two of the greatest NWOBHM-era bands – Angelwitch and Tytan. And of course being the brother of Girlschool drummer Denise.
But Dave’s NWOBHM pedigree doesn’t end with Angelwitch and Tytan. It goes much wider than that. And indeed before that going back to the mid-1960s.
In addition to Angelwitch and Tytan, Dave was also involved with a number of other bands in the NWOBHM days, some of which were quite short lived without managing to release any recorded material.
One of them was Phantasm. This project also included Tom Price (ex-Tredegar), Gary Jones (ex-Blade Runner) and a remarkable vocalist called Jan Stevens. An album of their demos was released in 2023 titled Undercover of the Night. It’s superb.
Now two more old NWOBHM-era bands which Dave drummed with and who did not manage to bag a recording contract back in the day are, as with Phantasm, having their old demo tapes released on CD through FHM Records.
The two bands are Troy and Nevada Foxx. The CD has five Troy tracks and four from Nevada Foxx.
The label has done their best to clean up the old tapes, the sound quality is improved yet shall we say “of its time” so do bear that in mind.
Quite a welcome and unexpected surprise that the old demos are now seeing the light of day and we can enjoy some more stuff from the old days which would otherwise have remained unreleased.
