New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Spartan Warrior New Album In The Works

Spartan WarriorAnother day, another email about yet another New Wave of British Heavy Metal band from “back in the day” active and recording. This time it’s Spartan Warrior – who I must admit to knowing next to nothing about – though here’s a quick potted history courtesy of bassist Dan Rochester:

Spartan Warrior were formed in 1980 in Sunderland, UK. The band developed a dedicated following as part of the NWOBHM scene appearing on various metal compilations with the likes of Slayer, Voivod, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard.

The debut album ‘Steel n Chains’ was released in 1983 through Guardian Records, which led to a deal with Roadrunner Records, who released their 1984 album, ‘Spartan Warrior‘.

The band went on hiatus from 1985-2005, then reformed in 2005 playing Headbangers Open Air Fest in Germany and Hard Rock Hell in Wales to amazing response, proving that even after 20 years the band have a loyal fanbase, with people flying in from around the world for shows and a high demand for the 80s albums.

With the release of 2010’s ‘Behind Closed Eyes’ album (Iron Age Records) and a new album for 2013 in the works, the band are stronger than ever, goin loud and proud!
