New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Stewartie Adams and Lyin Rampant

Email arrived “out of the blue” from Stewartie Adams – for those of you who may remember, Stewartie was a member of the superb New Wave of British Heavy Metallers Tytan “back in the day”.

Despite Tytan’s debut album being a veritable NWOBHM classic (review here), Stewartie left the band prior to that and did not perform on the album.

After departing Tytan, Stewartie went home to Scotland and went about forming a band or two. The most notable being Lyin Rampant.

The album is something of an under the radar gem. A sort of Scottish “hair metal” full of tasty lead work over crisp, chugging riffs with plenty of hooks and melody via Stewartie’s vocals.

As well as the heavier melodic stuff, they could do the soulful power ballads such as Don’t Walk Away.

Overall – an enjoyable listen promising much for the future.

That future never came for Lyin Rampant after that sole album. The label folded and the band split.

The Lyin Rampant album is very hard to find on CD, however it can be found on the usual digital outlets. Do give it a listen. It’s no back number.

He has couple of nice instrumental tracks out thgere too. I Want You Forever is a nice chunky rocker. Someone Like You shows a sensitive side with a mellow piano-based vibe. Get ’em on Amazon here.

And thank you to Stewartie for the t-shirt, sweatband and guitar picks. Top man!
