I was contacted a few days ago by James, one of the guys behind the Thrash Metal Times. Nice of him to tell me about his site and also give this humber NWOBHM blog a bit of a plug there. So it’s only right and proper that I reciprocate with a few paras about James’ site. It’s not just thrash metal on there, of no…..lots of other good heavy metal to read about including NWOBHM stuff too.
Do check it out and have a good look around. There’s enough there to give you a healthy read and seek out the new wave of British heavy metal content too. Thrash Metal Times burst in to life in January 2012 and has grown ever since. Like their strapline says, it’s not just thrash – it’s all other forms of the heavy metal genre too.
I asked James about the origins of TMT, he had this to say:
“Joe and I use to work together, in fact he was my boss. One day I heard him mention Megadeth to someone and I said, “Hey did you know that Dave Ellefson is back in the band?” He said, I didn’t know you were into metal. I said dude let’s go to my car and I will show you my iPod full of metal.
Well, from that point on all we talked about was thrash metal and NWOBHM. We worked together for about a year and a half and we always talked about doing a blog. He came into work one day and said he set up the site the night before.
We call it The Thrash Metal Times but if you look over the entire history of articles, you can see that we cover much more than thrash. One thing we do not write about or even acknowledge are the Cookie Monster growling vocals types of bands. Neither one of us can stand them and I think that vocal style is a complete joke. (Ed note…..I agree entirely….!)
Joe ended up getting transferred to another job location so now we just communicate via email or Skype. So far it seems to be working out OK.”
