In the previous post I mentioned that Cult Metal Classics are releasing anthologies from Torture and Turbo next month (June 2025) for more “under the radar” bands from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal days.
Well, now there are two more. The Obscure NWOBHM Releases label. In a few days time at the end of this month (May 2025) they are releasing two more which they have unearthed from the NWOBHM days as they (like Cult Metal Classics) keep on doing.
The two in question are Wulf (that’s Wulf with a U and not to be confused with Wolf, who had the superb Edge of the World album) and Clientelle.
I can’t tell you (or even find out) much about Wulf. Apparently they were around between 1982 to 1985 and recoded some stuff which was never released.
That is until now with this release of those songs they did record back in the day.
Here’s a Wulf video:
With regard to Clientelle, they were from Hertfordshire, hung around for a few years, had some nice support slots and did release a solitary album in 1981 titled Destination Unknown.
That album had a limited re-release about five years ago. I have a copy of that and it’s all good stuff. You can read my review of it here.
Clientelle were a bit different to what may be deemed “traditional” New Wave of British Heavy Metal as they built in so much variation including some short, spiky songs and more elaborate stuff with progressive influences – for example Missing Presumed Dead which is a Rush style epic which could have come straight off Caress of Steel.
However this release is a double CD of Clientelle caught live at various performances between 1980 and 1984 and some previously unreleased songs are included.
Here’s Clientelle live:
As is usual with Obscure NWOBHM Releases, both CDs are limited editions of just 500 – so don’t hang about if you want one or both.
