New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Vantage Point: Demonic Dinner Dance II.

Vantage Point – Scotland’s “best kept rock music secret” – surely a band this good must find a big label deal soon. Here they are with a monster of an album in Demonic Dinner Dance II: The Demon Stomp.

If you like barnstorming riffs, shredtacular solos with a deft touch, pounding rhythm section and powerful rangy vocals that at times might just cause a couple of your windows to shatter – then go and get a copy of this RIGHT NOW!!!

The possessor of those vocals is Murray Graham. He plays a mean bass too. And the guitarist is Liam Kane. Man, can he play. James Mitchell (rhythm guitar) and David Cumming complete a very tight, talented band with Lissa Robertson cropping up a couple of times with some nice vocals and Matthew Bartlett offering occasional keys.

The Demon Stomp hits hard from start to finish. Make no mistake. It’s all here and then some.

Take the opening couple of cuts. Intrepidation and the title track. Get your ears round the guitar work. Yngwie who? Liam Kane’s all over it. Savage, barnstorming stuff. Here’s the Demon Stomp:

The remainder of the album keeps up the pace. No dud moments here. Rock solid rhythm section keeping things in time, big, chugging rhythm guitar then Kane and Graham to the fore with that phenomenal lead guitar and vocal work.

The chords and riffs are spectacular. Kane’s solo work jaw-dropping. It’s so good from top to bottom that it’s hard to pick out any particular highlights. Though perhaps Leona Hart is one and the three part Equine Lady spread out over the course of the album.

Conversation Starter is a proper punchy instrumental with Kane all over it again. Lissa’s vocals add nicely to Laid Back Lad. Rather soulful I thought.

Fast Car Smell has a hook which plants itself immediately in to your head. And the closing out instrumental Demon Stomp Overture is rather quirky edging in to prog territory.

Overall – monster, monster rock songs played how they should be played. I certainly make no apology in urging you to check out Vantage Point and the Demon Stomp. I’m sure you’ll have no regrets.
