New Wave of British Heavy Metal legends Venom have a three disc box set of the first three post-Cronos albums starting with Prime Evil from 1989. The release date is slotted for 27th June 2025.
The set is titled Blackened Priests and in addition to Prime Evil includes Temples of Ice from 1991 and The Waste Lands from 1992.
The band of course being highly influential with their earlier albums such as Welcome to Hell and Black Metal going to have a big influence on the then emerging NWOBHM scene but also thrash and what would become known as black metal.
Things changed for Venom after Cronos left and in came Tony Dolan to front up the band as one of a number of line-up changes.
In addition to the three CDs there are comprehensive of liner notes which feature new interviews with Tony Dolan and Al Barnes.
Prime Evil, Temples of Ice and The Waste Lands, whilst all fine albums, didn’t set the world alight in terms of sales and Venom in effect split.
There was a subsequent reformation and Venom continue to this day in various configurations.
Oh: almost forgot……..Prime Evil includes bonus tracks in the form of the Tear Your Soul Apart EP.
As a taster (or reminder), here’s Blackened Are the Priests:
