About a year ago I received an email from Chris Calavrias introducing me to his band – Razorwyre. If you search this blog you’ll find the post I put together then about the band and their “Coming Out EP. Today I have another email from Chris this time telling me that Rayzorwyre is busy on a new CD to be called Another Dimension. And he gave me a link to a promo track: The Infinite/Desert Inferno. I’m very please Chris emailed me – because it’s a killer track sure enough. You can check it out below.
Razorwyre hail from New Zealand. I guess they’d be categorised as a sport of speed/thrash metal hybrid though their style also brings in some “traditional” heavy metal and melody not to mention some very fine playing. Another Dimension reminds me of the style of NWOBHM era Judas Priest and Iron Maiden with a touch of Megadeth and also (back to the NWOBHM days) Angel Witch.
An excellent “epic” style intro leads you in before the mayhem starts with the next five minutes or so a marvellous blur of speedy riffs, nice, intelligent guitar runs and soloing which fit together really well help together by a tight rhythm section and over the top of it all a fine vocal performance (the guy hits the high notes/screams very well) not that far removed from Rob Halford at his peak.
