That top crew at Cult Metal Classics have done their stuff yet again by magicking up out of nowhere two “under the radar” bands from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal days with limited edition CD runs due out next month – June 2025.
The bands are Torture and Turbo.
The label has been able to track down original members of both bands and reached agreement to release their stuff from the old days giving us more lost and largely forgotten NWOBHM to enjoy.
Torture originated in the late 1970s. They recorded a demo in 1980 followed by a single in 1981.
A couple of name changes then happened to Mean Streak and Janus Stark. However things didn’t go further than that and time was called.
The single and assorted demos are being released by Cult Metal Classics as Last Post – The Complete Delivery 1980-1981.
It comprises of fifteen tracks which include Torture’s single and demo plus songs recorded in 1983 as both Mean Streak and Janus Stark.
Here a taster:
As for Turbo – they were from the Burnley area of Lancashire forming at the end of the 1970s.
They managed to put out a couple of singles and had one track on the New Electric Warriors compilation before disappearing.
This anthology is titled Charged for Glory.
The fifteen tracks comprise of Turbo’s two singles together with a live performance recorded at a Burnley venue in 1981.
Here is Charged for Glory:
Both releases are due towards the end of next month (June 2025). As is usual with Cult Metal Classics the CD run is limited to 400 copies – however there is mention of vinyl and digital versions.
Top marks to the label for once again putting in the detective work to rediscover yet more New Wave of British Heavy Metal era bands who promised much back then without making it.
