Razar King is the alter-ego of Gary King – he of the band Raddar. Gary’s over on the other side of the pond in Texas and sends me some of his music from time to time, most recently the excellent Beacon album by Raddar (review here).
Now, Gary is quite prolific with his solo stuff, which goes out under the Razar King banner. He’s sent over the files for his recent collection which is titled Foretelling.
Ten tracks of solidly punchy rockers with a classic rock sound and a bluesy edge to them. All nicely measured with the crisp riffs, guitar runs and melodies.
Gary doesn’t need to do anything flash or fancy. Instead concentrating on good old fashioned classic rock which grows with each listen.
To select some of the Foretelling songs as examples…..the title track crunches along nicely. Chunkily heavy.
Love Buzz does have a buzz to it. Cardboard Lady has the riff and catchy hook. Watching you Watching Me has some bite to it as does Train to Paradise.
The whole ten songs are well constructed and with them all around an average of four minutes it’s concise stuff without any pointless noodling for the sake of noodling.
I couldn’t find any videos to drop in for a taster. However, you can listen to all the songs on Gary’s web site and if you like them you can buy them from his online shop.
Here’s where to go:

You can also listen to some of Gary’s heavier, harder edged stuff such as World Shaker, Brace for Collision, Pildedrivers and Born in Texas.
Gary’s been around on the scene for decades. Interestingly he got the Razar King tag back in the 1970s when a band colleague described his guitar sound as like razor blades coming out of the speakers. He was then duly dubbed the Razor King after the song off Gamma’s first album.
If you remember Gamma with Ronnie Montrose you will remember that song. The first three Gamma albums back then were marvellous (review here). Not so much Gamma 4 though.
So why Razar King and not Razor King? Well, it’s Razar to make it palindromic as is Gary’s other band Raddar.
Do check out Gary’s work – and also Raddar:
