New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Atlas: In Pursuit of Memory Review.

Atlas In Pursuit of MemoryA few weeks ago I was contacted by Atlas about their recent second album Parallel Love.

And what a fine album that is – see review here. So impressed was I that I also bought their initial EP and their debut album – In Pursuit of Memory. And that’s a firecracker too.

Seriously high class melodic hard rock/metal with a bit of prog thrown in.

Punchy guitars, sublime shredding, throbbing rhythm section, excellent keys and soaring vocals. Add in the huge hooks and melodies and Atlas are on to a winner. Make no mistake.

Powerful, punchy songs each well written and tightly performed. Can’t go wrong here.

Check out the opener – Samsara. It’s got the lot packed in to it. As has the next cut – Bad Habbit. Riffs, big chords, shredtacular lead breaks, atmospheric keys, lungbusting vocals. There’s nothing not to like. Don’t believe me? Then listen to Samsara.

Now you know what to expect from the rest of the album – and it does not disappoint.

Check out in particular As Time Goes By for a tasty, hard-hitting rocker and also Lock and Key with the impressive guitar solos.

Supernova is in the same vein and Atlas can do the moodier ballad type stuff too with Signal of Hope, which still manages to pack a bite.

The closer – Live and Forget is perhaps my personal favourite with James Thorley’s keys coming to the fore more prominently.

Indeed – when Thorley interplays with the guitars throughout the album it’s excellent and works so well. I’d mark that down as a particular strength of the band’s overall sound.

This is a first class debit album from a band surely going places. That’s further evidenced on the follow-up Parallel Love (reminder: review of that here).

Surely Atlas has a huge future ahead of them. Bag yourself both albums, why not!

You may be able to get their stuff from their Bandcamp page (https://atlasmusicuk.bandcamp.com/) however as I type this post it’s showing only one copy of the CD left and only two of the album with the EP.

Though of course the streaming/download versions are available if you’re in to that rather than the physical product.
