Not the motor racing circuit in Kent – this Brands Hatch were around for a while back in the original New Wave of British Heavy Metal days. As was another band with the same name who released a single titled Teacher Teacher.
The Brands Hatch we’re looking at here is the other Brands Hatch which as far as I know did not have any publically available recorded out put back in the day.
Confused? I hope not……
This Brands Hatch were from the Sunderland area of England – of course that north east region of thus humble island being a NWOBHM breeding ground responsible for many notable bands such as White Spirit, Tank, Raven and others and of course Neat Records, the label to which many were signed by.
Brands Hatch wouldn’t join that roster or any other unfortunately for them. There was the four track demo tape known as Guardian though to my knowledge nothing in the public domain officially.
That has now changed thanks once again to the Obscure NWOBHM Releases crew conjuring up another one recently releasing an anthology of Brands Hatch’s stuff on a CD limited, as it usual with the label, edition run of 500 CDs.
The four tracks from that old Guardian demo tape are included along with a further eight previously unreleased tracks.
Generally it is straight ahead good old fashioned New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the traditional style. Hard, heavy, energetic with the sludgy rifferama crunching along featuring shortish, fastish solos, thumping rhythm section and no-nonsense vocals.
A fine example of this is No Return. Have a listen:
If you like your NWOBHM like that then grab a copy of this anthology before the 500 copies disappear.
As I type this post (27 September 2023) the Obscure NWOBHM Releases web site is showing availability as is my other usual source Sonic Age Records. Links are:

Am intrigued as to which band from the old days either label will treat us to next.
