More proper under the radar stuff from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal days unearthed. This time it’s a band by the name of Dervish.
I can neither remember or tell you much about them bar they were from Kent and mooched around a bit for a couple of years at the start of the 1980s. I think they had one song on a compilation album – Kent Rocks Volume 1 and that was about it for them back then.
An email arrived from Sonic Age Records a couple of day ago listing Dervish’s Some Monsterism as a new one under their NWOBHM section. Immediate investigation was necessary…..
This is a limited edition of 300 CDs of stuff Dervish did record back in the day. It’s out via Hellven Classics Records comprising of eleven tracks.
Seems that Some Monsterism was first released in 2001 on vinyl as a limited edition of 750 units., 100 of which were on green vinyl. If you have one of those may be it has some scarcity value?
Now thanks to Hellven Classics, there are now 300 CDs available.
Musically, Dervish were typically fast, hard and heavy with plenty of energy. Check out Speeding Fine for example. A breathless instrumental indeed:
The cover is interesting. Legend has it that the subject was a bloke named Stuart who was at the Reading Festival with some friends of Dervish and as one tended to do at festivals back then, spent the occasion getting epically drunk and passed out.
And subsequently semi-immortalised on the cover photo.
If you want to snap up one of the 300 before they’re gone, here’s a link to Hellven Classics:
