New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

New UFO CD Seven Deadly Out On February 27 2012

UFO Seven DeadlyHighly influential British heavy rock stalwarts UFO release a new album – Seven Deadly – which is due out via SPV/Steamhammer on 27 February 2012 in various formats. In addition to the standard and download version there will also be a limited edition digipak will include two bonus tracks and double-gatefold coloured vinyl issue for those who prefer that.

As a long time UFO fan going all the way back to Lights Out when I first discovered them I think it’s absolutely outstanding that, given all the Spinal Tap type stuff over the years, Phil Mogg and his mates are still going and showing how it should be done.

The past few albums with Vinnie Moore on shredding duty I think have pushed the band forward in new directions without losing the classic sound – well, could that ever happen with Andy Parker and Paul Raymond still in the thick of it – and why should Seven Deadly be any different. And the title is certainly  a bit more sensible that the original title of Last of the Bone Riders.

I’ve heard a few samples of the new songs and if they are anything to go by then Seven Deadly sounds like it’s a bit less blues-tinged than The Monkey Puzzle and The Visitor were and more akin to what one might call the classic UFO sound of the Schenker/Chapman eras.

There’s a UK tour scheduled as well plus other dates. The UK leg starts on 15 March in Cambridge so be sure to catch them if you can as a UFO gig never disappoints. And I say that based on seeing them many, many times since my first time on the Lights Out tour in Sheffield back in the seventies. Well, they almost let me down in Bradford during the Walk on Water tour but I forgave them – Schenker wasn’t firing that night as I recall.
