New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Trespass Return. New Album, New Line-Up.

Trespass AnthologyAnother New Wave of British Heavy Metal original is back. Trespass. Reformed with a new line-up (including two of the original members – Dave Crawte and Mark Sutcliffe), an album of re-recorded material from the “old days” and a brand new album planned.

Whilst it’s great that NWOBHM remains valid and popular, I realised after discovering that Trespass return that I have so far not written about them here, so let me put that right with a bit of a brief history. That starts all the way back around 1979 when the band formed and started to seek gigging opportunities around their local area of Suffolk.

A local label signed them up with the first fruits of that relationship being the single One of These Days seeing the light of day in 1980. It became something of a minor classic featuring for example on the Friday Rock Show which went out on Radio One. Great show was that – remember discovering many a fine new band listening to Tommy Vance back then. Forgive my minor digression…..

Trespass’s growing profile would see them have two tracks included on the now legendary “Metal for Muthas” album – One of These Days and Stormchild. Would this be the breakthrough which sent the band in to the heavy metal stratosphere? It looked like it just might with a tasty management deal and a presence on the Metal Explosion compilation album.

Thanks to YouTube, here’s a grainy video of the band performing One of These Days back in 1980:

However as with many NWOBHM-era bands, things looked great then fizzled out. Add Trespass to that list. Very promising with plenty of media attention though the big break didn’t materialise. Line-up changes came and went, the band tried hard including the recording of the Bright Lights EP. A mooted deal with the EMI label didn’t happen and that was more or less that for Trespass other than some sporadic activity.

A “greatest hits” CD hit the shelves in 1992 and an album (Head) came out in 1993 and a further compilation (anthology) was issued in 1993.

Now it’s 2015 and Trespass is back. And jolly good news it is too. Have a look-see at the band’s web site for what they are up to and if you’d like to buy the album of their re-recordings and other stuff:
