Raddar: Signal Review

Raddar SignalRaddar guitarist Gary “Razar” King has ben in touch from Texas again – this time sending me over another of Raddar’s albums. This one is their second album titled Signal from 2021.

And just as Transmission and Beacon, Signal is high quality, well crafted classic hard rock with bite, big melodies and hooks.

If anything, Signal is a little heavier with plenty of nice, tasty, chunky, chugging riffage and crunching chords.

The guitar licks are concise and effective lending themselves to the songs. The basslines add to that by being complimentary and melodic. Randee Lee’s organ swirls add that extra dimension with a “full” sound.

And a special mention for drummer Michelle Sanna. I know he’s one of Gary’s favourite drummers and he was pleased to have Michelle perform on the album. He drums up a storm with a powerful performance throughout really driving things along.

The ten tracks here on Signal are all powerful, catchy and enjoyable. Cold Cold Cold more so. Power of the Press nicely pacey and hard hitting. Stand Your Ground is a nice thumping opener with the big hook.

Here’s Messiah’s Comin’:

The title track is huge. A proper “ear worm”. Tokyo Monsters is fun and the closer of Locomotive Flight ends things in powerful fashion.

Another winner from Raddar. You can listen to samples and buy the downloads of all Raddar’s stuff from the band’s web site:

Now, separately to Raddar, Gary’s a prolific chap with his solo material.

A few weeks ago he sent me his Foretelling songs.

Along with Signal, he’s sent me his Life in Steel songs.

These are good also. Heavier and more direct than Foretelling with more of a bluesy style than Raddar.

In particular the title track, Wake the Neighbours, Sonic Thunder and She’s a Slippery One.

The songs on Life in Steel cover everything from the Roman Empire to Gary’s life in heavy rock from the beginning to now. Described as “a decagon of devastating decibels.”

Gary’s solo output can be previewed and downloads purchased from his web site:
