Gary ‘Razar’ King: Hope and Darkness

My contact over in Texas – Gary ‘Razar’ King – continues to be a busy chap. If you’ve been here before you may be aware of other stuff he’s sent to me such.

Gary is the guitarist in Raddar – a long standing band which has a back catalogue of superb heavy/classic rock albums such as Beacon and Transmission – in addition to his solo output under his Razar King banner such as Foretelling.

Lately he’s send me more of his work. This time an ongoing overarching project he’s working on under the banner of the multi-part Alloy project.

The the two parts he’s sent over currently are titled respectively Hope and Darkness which are linked and continue the theme.

Both are I think generally a bit more straight ahead and heavier than Raddar whilst still being gritty, well-paced classic rock.

We have plenty of crunchy riffs, understated yet effective solos which compliment the songs rather than overpower them, a solid rhythm section and a punchy vocal style.

All solid stuff indeed with some contrast between Hope and Darkness. The Hope songs I think have more of a melodic slant whereas the Darkness songs are generally heavier and darker.

As Gary says about the Alloy project:

“The Story Of Alloy rocks hard infused with melody. Part rock opera, part full frontal attack. Guaranteed to pull you in to the ongoing story line. I am really excited about this project, and couldn’t be happier with how the first two releases have turned out.”

Hope comprises of twelve songs and Darkness fourteen. All are available from Gary’s web site shop.

And you can listen to plenty of Gary’s songs on his web site first on the front page.

Do go there to see and hear what Gary’s up to.
