New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Classic and Progressive Rock

Maxdmyz: Anatomy of Power Review.

Maxdmyz Anatomy of PowerHere’s a band I’d not heard of until they got in touch to ask if I’d take a look at their Anatomy of Power album.

They sportingly sent me a CD and I inserted it in to my ancient, but trusty, Sony combo (a turntable and yes – a twin cassette deck too) with an open mind not knowing what to expect.

And whilst it’s not the sort of stuff I’d normally go for, it’s impressive stuff and I’ve enjoyed it.

Maxdmyz from London and it looks like they’ve been around for a bit and put out previous albums, Anatomy of Power being released a few weeks ago in May 2020.

Whilst it’s very heavy with lots of brutal, fast, crushing riffs and a “drilling” drum sound, there’s plenty going on throughout with all sorts of other styles and influences present.

Overall, I’d say sort of Motorhead, Faith No More, Metallica and Queensryche with a bit of 1890s style synth stuff in there too (Ultravox?).

There’s some fine guitar work going on to and rangy vocals including some melodic touches.

Quite a recipe eh. Hidden depth and nuances to the heaviness.

Have a listen to the title track and hear for yourself.

Other tracks such as My State and Slip Away in a similar vein and the eight songs flow together nicely with the listening time flying by.

If you liked to video above, do check Maxdmyz out further. Anatomy of Power is available on CD via the band’s web site or for all you modern types who favour this new-fangled streaming/downloading malarkey – try the usual sources. Amazon Music perhaps

Have an email from Sonic Age Records that the Traitor’s Gate and Zenith CDs are on their way. So there’ll be a review of both shortly after they arrive and it’s back to good old NWOBHM.
